Connect C-Pen Reader 3 and C-Pen Lingo 3 to Cochlear hearing aids

Bluetooth hearing aids typically use a specific way of communicating via Bluetooth, called ASHA. This is different from the way ordinary Bluetooth headsets work.

To solve this, and enable use of Reader 3 & Lingo 3 with your Cochlear hearing aids, you can use their Phone Clip.

How to connect C-Pen Reader 3 and C-Pen Lingo 3 with your Cochlear hearing aids

Pairing your hearing aids with Phone Clip

  1. Ensure Phone Clip is powered off.

  2. Press the Bluetooth pairing button under the cover to put the Phone Clip into Bluetooth pairing mode.

Turn your hearing aids off.

  • For hearing aids with disposable batteries, open the battery drawer.

  • For rechargeable hearing aids, turn them off by pressing the lower button of each hearing aid for three seconds.

Turn your hearing aids on.

  • For hearing aids with disposable batteries, close the battery drawer.

  • For rechargeable hearing aids, turn them on by pressing the lower button of each hearing aid for two seconds, or put them in the charger and then take them out again.

The hearing aids are now ready for the first connection with the Phone Clip. You now have three minutes to complete the pairing.

Establish a connection.

  • On the C-Pen, enable Bluetooth and search for devices.

  • If the C-Pen supports Bluetooth audio output (A2DP or HFP), it should pair and stream audio to the Phone Clip, which will then forward it to the Cochlear sound processor.

Important to note, if the C-Pen only supports Bluetooth for data transfer (e.g., sending text to a computer), it will not work for audio streaming. You’ll need to confirm if the pen supports A2DP or HFP profiles.

The Micro-USB port on the Phone Clip is only for charging the device. It does not support audio input or data transfer for streaming sound.
