How to reset your C-Pen 

Applies to C-Pen Reader 2, C-Pen Exam Reader 2, C-Pen Secure Reader 2, C-Pen Lingo 3 and C-Pen Reader 3

Pen Reset

The reader pens can be both reset by hardware and by software.

A hardware reset may be required if the pen for any reason stop working or doesn’t power up.

C-Pen 2 family

Reader 2, Exam Reader 2, Secure Reader 2

 

Hard reset

A hard reset equals “force the pen to power off and restart”. It does not affect any data or settings.

These pens have a traditional reset button on the back side.

  1. Make sure the pen battery is charged.

  2. Use a paper clip and press the small dot-like reset button.

  3. If the pen does not power up/reset automatically, press-and-hold the power button (marked Power ) for 3 seconds then release and wait for the pen to power up.

Soft reset / restore defaults

Following these steps will erase any personal text files, recordings and Practice data stored on the Reader 2. For ALL models, ALL settings will be reset to factory default.

Neither Exam Reader 2 nor Secure reader 2 stores any data.

  1. Turn on the device.

  2. Use the the LEFT/RIGHT nav buttons to click along the main menu and press OK/center button to select "Settings".

  3. Use DOWN button to move down to System Settings. Press OK to enter into System Settings.

  4. Use DOWN button to move down to Default Settings. Press OK to select.

  5. The screen will display "Reboot after reset. Proceed?".  Select Yes and press OK button action.

  6. The screen will display "All personal files will be erased!" Select Yes and press OK to continue the reboot.

  7. The device will now restart.  Wait for it to load, and it should display the main menu.

C-Pen 3 family

 

Reader 3, Lingo 3

Hard reset

A hard reset equals “force the pen to power off and restart”. It does not affect any data or settings.

These pens uses the Power button to make a hard reset.

  1. Make sure the pen battery is charged.

  2. If the pen is off, press-and-hold the power button until the C-PEN logo appears on the screen.

  3. If the pen is on, and the power button is pressed-and-held, a “Power off?” message” appears on the screes after about 3 seconds.

    1. If that message does not appear, keep the power button pressed until the screen turns off/goes black.

  4. To restart the pen, press-and-hold the power button until the C-PEN logo appears on the screen.

Soft reset / restore defaults

Following these steps will erase any personal text files, recordings and Practice data, and ALL settings will be reset to factory default.

 

  1. Turn on the device.

  2. Use the the LEFT/RIGHT nav buttons or the touch screen to select Settings.

  3. Scroll all way down to System Settings using nav buttons or touch screen, tap on screen or click OK button to enter.

  4. Scroll all way down to Default Settings using nav buttons or touch screen, tap on screen or click OK button to enter.

  5. Next screen prompts for an approval. tap touch screen or use nav buttons to select YES.

  6. The screen will display "All personal files will be erased!" Select Yes and press OK to continue the reboot.

  7. The device will now restart.  Wait for it to load, and it should display the main menu.
