How to update your C-Pen Reader 3 and C-Pen Lingo 3

Keep your C-Pen Reader 3 or C-Pen Lingo 3 up to date to receive the latest features, fixes and performance improvements. You can update over the air using Wi-Fi or manually with a computer and a data-capable USB cable.

Before you begin

Charge the pen to more than 50%.

Check that the date and time on the pen are correct. Incorrect settings can prevent an over-the-air update.

For an over-the-air update, connect the pen to Wi-Fi.

For a manual update, disconnect the pen from Wi-Fi and use a USB cable that supports data transfer. Charge-only cables will not work.

Update over the air

1. Connect the pen to Wi-Fi

Press Back until the main menu appears.

Press the M button to open the quick menu.

Select the Wi-Fi icon.

If Wi-Fi is off, turn it on using the toggle in the upper-right corner.

Select your network, enter the password and confirm the connection.

2. Start the update

Return to the main menu and open Settings.

Select System Settings.

Select Software upgrade.

Confirm the upgrade, then wait while the update downloads and installs.

When the pen restarts, the update is complete.

Update using a USB cable

Open the [model] firmware updates and release notes page and download the files for the required version.

Disconnect the pen from Wi-Fi.

Connect the pen to your computer using a data-capable USB-C cable.

Select U-Disk on the pen. The pen should appear as a portable drive on the computer.

Unzip the downloaded packages and copy the extracted .BIN files to the root folder of the pen’s U-Disk.

Safely eject the pen’s U-Disk from the computer.

On the pen, go to Settings → System Settings → Software update.

Confirm the update and wait for the pen to restart.

Confirm the update

Open System Information and check that the installed firmware version matches the version shown on the [model] update page.

How to Manually update C-Pen Reader 3 or C-Pen Lingo 3 to firmware 1.0.04

Use these instructions when an over-the-air update is unavailable or unsuitable.

Before you begin

Charge the pen to more than 50%.

Use a USB cable that supports data transfer. A charge-only cable will not work.

Turn Wi-Fi off on the pen before starting the update.

Download the update files

Download the firmware 1.0.04 package and unzip it.

Download the system dictionary package and unzip it.

Locate the two extracted .BIN files.

Install the update

Connect the pen to your computer using a data-capable USB cable.

Select U-Disk on the pen.

Open the pen’s U-Disk on the computer and copy both .BIN files to its root folder.

Safely eject the pen’s U-Disk from the computer.

Confirm that Wi-Fi is off on the pen.

Go to Settings → System Settings → Software update.

Confirm the update and wait for the pen to restart.

After the update

Open System Information and confirm that the installed firmware version is 1.0.04.
