Can I buy a C-Pen through the Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA)?

What is TEFA?

The Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) program provides eligible families with state-funded education funds that may be used for approved educational expenses. Depending on program guidelines and individual student needs, assistive technology and educational devices may qualify as eligible purchases.

Families of students with dyslexia, reading difficulties, ADHD, learning disabilities, or other educational needs may be able to use TEFA funds toward the purchase of a C-Pen Reader, an assistive technology tool designed to support independent reading and access to printed text.

Who May Be Eligible?

A child may be eligible for TEFA if they:

  • Are a Texas resident.
  • Are eligible to attend a Texas public school or pre-kindergarten program.
  • Will be participating in an approved private school or homeschool educational setting through the TEFA program. TEFA Program

  • Especially beneficial for students with dyslexia, reading difficulties, ADHD, and other learning differences

          Students with disabilities may receive priority consideration during the application process. Families may be asked to provide documentation such as an IEP, qualifying evaluation, or disability certification form as part of the application.
